DAVAO CITY GOV’T TO OPEN HOSPITAL IN UP-MINDANAO

/ 19 April 2021

THE DAVAO city government plans to open a 100-bed capacity hospital in the University of the Philippines-Mindanao.

Tugbok Councilor Mary Joselle Villafuerte said that officials have been working on the draft ordinance for the establishment of a level 3 hospital in the UP Mindanao campus.

“This is going to be quite a big project because this is a 100-bed hospital and we want it to be a Level 3,” she said.

Villafuerte estimated that P300 million will be needed for the construction of the hospital.

The local government plans to hold the groundbreaking rites this year.

The construction of a Level 3 hospital would be a “win-win” situation for both the local government and UPMin as the city needs its own healthcare facility for its constituents while the state university needs a hospital to run a medical school.

She said city officials inspected the proposed site on March 18.

Villafuerte said that Mayor Sara Duterte pledged financial support for the construction of the hospital.
