DA-BAR PROVIDES FUNDS FOR MARINDUQUE STATE COLLEGE BANANA TISSUE CULTURE PROJECT
THE DEPARTMENT of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research provided funds to the Marinduque State College to help its Banana Tissue Culture project.
DA-BAR provided the school funds to buy reagents and equipment for the plant tissue culture activities as per a statement from MSC.
The project began in 2012 after the DA granted the MSC budget to rehabilitate its Tissue Culture Laboratory.
“To further operationalize the laboratory, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research provided funds for the procurement of various reagents and equipment for plant tissue culture activities,” MSC said.
“At present, the tissue culture laboratory is conducting tissue culture of bananas of the ‘Lakatan’ variety. This initiative aims to provide quality banana planting materials to local farmers in Marinduque,” it added.
The MSC is also venturing in utilizing left-over coconut husks, or bunot in Filipino, as fertilizers and mulching agents.
