CLASSES OPEN IN QUAKE-HIT MINDORO
CLASSES opened in Occidental Mindoro today, hours after the province was jolted by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake, the Department of Education-MIMAROPA said.
Occidental Mindoro Governor Eduardo Gadiano said there was no need to suspend classes because no damage was reported.
The quake’s epicenter was located 17 kilometers northeast of Looc. It had a depth of 122 km.
Schools Division Superintendent Roger F. Capa and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Mario Mulingbayan confirmed that the quake did no damage to infrastructure or buildings.
The Education department earlier said that class suspensions can be declared by the local government when there are natural calamities such as earthquakes, typhoons, or floods.
Meanwhile, the distribution of learning modules in the province was completed three days before the opening of classes.
