ARRESTED YOUTH LEADER IN BICOL GETS LEGAL AID

/ 4 May 2021

A FORMER member of the Free Legal Assistance Group has provided assistance to Sasah Sta. Rosa, a youth leader arrested by the police in Naga City, the Ateneo de Naga University said.

University President Fr. Roberto Rivera said he visited Sta. Rosa at the Naga City Police Office Station 2.

Sta. Rosa, an alumna of ADNU Senior High School and BSE Math student, is the spokesperson of Jovenes Anakbayan and chairperson of Anakbayan Naga City.

“I was able to visit her through the kindness of CPO Station 2 Commander PMaj. Reynaldo Balindan, and through the mediation of AdNU alumnus and retired FLAG lawyer Atty. Carlos Cortes Jr.,” Rivera said.

“Atty. Cortes is currently overseeing the provision of legal aid for Sasah, and I likewise assured her of the AdNU community’s moral support.  Let us continue to pray for the speedy resolution of her case,” he added.

Rivera said that Sta. Rosa was being treated well while in detention.

“Her needs are being provided for by the CPO Station 2 personnel, as well as family members and relatives who have been able to visit her,” he said.

Anakbayan Naga City claimed that Sta. Rosa was arrested in her home in Villa Obiedo, Cararayan, Naga City, Camarines Sur.

It claimed that policemen ordered Sta. Rosa’s family to go outside so they can search the entire house and “plant” evidence.

Police chief Gen. Debold Sinas said that Sta. Rosa was arrested for alleged possession of loose firearms and improvised explosives.
