YOUNG ATHLETES SET TO BENEFIT FROM BAGUIO CITY SPORTS HS

/ 25 March 2025

BAGUIO City’s young athletes are set to benefit from a major development with the establishment of the Baguio City Sports High School, following the enactment of Republic Act 12119, authored by Congressman Mark Go.

The new institution aims to provide aspiring student-athletes with specialized education and training, enhancing their potential in both academics and sports.

“This is a major step in empowering our young athletes,” Go said, expressing optimism about the school’s role in shaping future champions.

He emphasized that student-athletes need not choose between education and sports, as the specialized curriculum will ensure they excel in both fields.

The initiative has gained national support, with the National Academy of Sports, led by Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara, including the initial planning of the Baguio City Sports High School in its quarterly meeting.

This marks a crucial step in the project’s realization, ensuring that the school will have a solid foundation in terms of structure, curriculum, and facilities.

The Baguio City Sports High School is expected to provide world-class training while maintaining high academic standards, giving young athletes a competitive edge in both local and international competitions.

Baguio City, known for producing top-tier athletes in various sports, will soon have an institution dedicated to nurturing their talents from a young age.

Go extended his gratitude to NAS and Secretary Angara for their commitment to advancing sports education in the country. He also assured the public that his office will closely monitor the progress of the project to guarantee its smooth implementation.

With the passage of RA 12119, Baguio City is poised to become a premier hub for sports education, reinforcing its reputation as the Summer Capital of the Philippines and now, a training ground for the nation’s next generation of sports champions.
