WATER BREAK IMPLEMENTED IN SOME SCHOOLS DUE TO EXTREME HEAT
EDUCATION Assistant Secretary and Deputy Spokesperson Francis Bringas said that some public schools have been implementing water breaks due to extreme heat.
Bringas said that during the water break, students will be directed to drink water to prevent dehydration.
“May mga schools nga na kapag ganyan [na sobrang mainit] mayroon silang tinatawag na water break kung saan ititigil lahat ng ginagawa for a few minutes and lahat ay directed to drink water all at once para every now and then they are rehydrated,” Bringas said in an interview with Dobol B TV.
The Department of Education official earlier said that face-to-face classes may be suspended due to extreme heat.
Bringas said that the school heads and local government units would base the temperature on the heat index forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
“Kapag umaabot na sa scale na critical or masyado nang mainit, kinakailangan na nilang mag-suspend… May mga instances na kahit mababa ‘yung heat index pero ‘yung nafifeel mong init ay iba, so maaari ring gawin ‘yan,” the deputy spokesperson said.
