WASH IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM WINS FIRST PRIZE IN COMPETITION
THE DEPARTMENT of Education’s Wash in Schools Program won first prize in GIZ Gender Competition 2022.
There were around 110 entries from different countries that joined the competition.
The department’s Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Health Division initiated the WinS Program with partners UNICEF, Save the Children and GIZ.
In a bid to be an important development actor and partner in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, EU Gender Action Plan 2021–2025, and the BMZ 2030 Reform Strategy, GIZ launched the gender competition this year in line with the organization’s gender strategy, the signing of the Women’s Empowerment Principles, and the organization’s elaborate gender architecture.
The program emphasizes measures for menstrual hygiene management as an important part of achieving gender equality and how to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene services that will enable women to take care of their menstruation while in school.
