TEACHERS SEEK DIALOGUE WITH VP SARA

/ 21 June 2022

THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers asked for a dialogue and consultation with incoming Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio for her to have a deeper understanding of the situation in the education sector as she takes on the role of education chief.

“Incoming VP and DepEd Sec Sara Duterte has expressed her intention of addressing the effects of the pandemic to our learners, and discussing about the K-12 (Kindergarten to Grade 12) program. Our teachers are in the best position to give her ground reports and an honest assessment of the situation,” Vladimer Questua, the group’s spokesperson, said.

Questua noted that his group is ready to sit with the incoming education secretary to discuss these problems and propose solutions to the learning crisis, as well as review the K to 12 program.

“We advise her not to repeat the mistake of Education Secretary Leonor ‘Liling’ Briones who has not once faced ACT and our accredited unions in a dialogue despite our countless requests,” he said.

Quetua also called on Duterte-Carpio to be more democratic and consultative in her style of leadership so that the problems in the education sector can be solved faster.
