TEACHERS’ GROUP LAUDS APPROVAL OF BILL INCREASING SUPPLY ALLOWANCE

/ 10 November 2020

THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers welcomed the passage of a bill that seeks to increase the teaching supplies allowance of public school teachers.

On Monday, senators approved on third and final reading Senate Bill 1092 or the Teaching Supplies Allowance Act of 2020.

If signed into law, teachers will receive P5,000 for School Year 2021-2022. The allowance will increase gradually every year until it reaches P10,000 in School Year 2024-2025.

The allowances are also exempt from income tax.

Meanwhile, the group also called on the House of Representatives to conduct a hearing to tackle teachers’ chalk and supply allowance.
