TEACHER’S GROUP ASKS RICE ALLOWANCE UPDATE FROM NFA

/ 10 October 2023

THE TEACHER’S Dignity Coalition asked the National Food Authority for an update on the release of the rice allowance of teachers.

The group said that it sent a letter to NFA Administrator Roderico Bioco informing that many teachers have yet to receive their one-time rice allowance.

All government workers, including public school teachers, are entitled to a one-time subsidy from the national government, according to Administrative Order No. 2, series of 2022, issued by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on December 16, 2022.

Some teachers have received their 25-kilo rice allowance.

TDC Chairman Benjo Basas said they are grateful for the rice allowance, however, they were dismayed over the delay of the distribution.

“No matter how small it may seem, we are grateful that the government provided its employees with this one-time rice assistance,” Basas said.

“But we felt dismay when January and February came to an end and we still hadn’t received the promised rice,” he added.

TDC said that teachers are still waiting for the rice, including those in Metro Manila.

“We would like to think that the NFA may have been cautious in distributing the rice because of the concerns raised earlier, which is why it took longer. Sadly, there has been a delay of almost a year, and we are now in the fourth quarter of 2023,” Basas said.
