SOLON PUSHES FOR TAX LITERACY ON ALL STUDENTS

ALBAY Rep. Edcel Lagman filed a measure pushing for the inclusion of tax literacy and responsibility subject from elementary to tertiary education.

Lagman said it is high time to give students knowledge on tax as the primary reason behind House Bill 76.

The measure also includes those whSo are taking technical and vocational courses.

“Tax Consciousness and Responsibility Act will complement the government’s efforts to improve tax collection efficiency to accelerate economic recovery,” Lagman said.

Among the lessons to be taught under the proposed subject are taxation history and the importance of taxes in national and local development, how it was used for basic social and economic services, and the types of taxes.

The measure mandates the Department of Education,  Commission on Higher Education and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to create tax education curriculum and modules.

This is in coordination with the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Bureau of Customs, tax experts, lawyers, academicians and local and national youth organizations.
