1PACMAN Party-list Rep. Michael Romero has filed a measure to establish more school buildings and infrastructure.

Romero’s House Bill 10732, or the proposed School Buildings / Facilities Act of 2024, aims to protect and promote the right of every Filipino to quality, equitable, culture-based, and complete education.

In his explanatory note, Romero emphasized the need to review the mandates and operations of all government agencies involved in the development and distribution of school facilities and programs to enhance collaboration in line with the Constitution.

“Recent studies have highlighted the alarming decline in the quality of education in the Philippines, a situation officially confirmed in the Department of Education’s basic education report,” Romero said, noting red flags in the DepEd’s procurement practices that demand urgent action.

Initial findings from the ongoing review of the K to 12 curriculum underscore the 10-year-old program’s failure to deliver satisfactory results.

The bill seeks to establish programs aimed at achieving national education goals and improving the well-being of all students.
