SOLON FLAGS ERRONEOUS MODULES

ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro on Friday flagged some modules of the Department of Education for being faulty and inappropriate.
Castro said that Module 2.2 of Introduction to Philosophy of the Human Person on the topic of Methods of Philosophizing for Senior High School was inappropriate.
“It is also riddled with faulty grammar and punctuation, as well as typographical errors,” she said.
The lawmaker said that some of the contents of the module, while technically correct, are laden with social and/or political bias.
“A table of fallacies in page 20, for example, identifies as ‘Argumentum ad Misercordiam’ [sic] or ‘appeal to pity’ the following statement: “Forgive me[,] officer[,] there are lot[s] of boarders in this apartment including myself. Only the owner was issued a quarantine pass. We don’t have food, we can’t give our ATM to the owner. That’s why I went out. So[,] I did not violate the Bayanihan Act Heal as One [sic],” Castro quoted the material.
She asked DepEd to always be sensitive of the life-and-death circumstances of Filipinos.
“During the long stretches of lockdowns in 2020 to 2021 and joblessness—the latter even still continues at present—the poor and even portions of the middle class have suffered from hunger and inaccessibility of basic services. They do not appreciate their arguments being labelled as false or illegitimate,” Castro said.
“We demand an immediate review of this module, a first edition released in 2020 according to its copyright page, and all modules that it has in circulation,” she added.
