SOLON EYES JOB PLACEMENT OFFICES IN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS

/ 26 December 2021

MANILA Rep. John Marvin Nieto filed a measure that seeks to establish job placement offices in public high schools to provide career services to the youth.

Nieto said there have been several countries with similar concepts, proving that job-skills mismatch problem is not endemic to the Philippines.

House Bill 10577 or the proposed Trabaho Center in Schools Act aims to establish Trabaho Centers in every public and private senior high school that will offer services on Industry Matching, Career Counseling and Employment Facilitation.

“Trabaho Centers shall create and maintain employer contacts, job opportunities and career guidance materials to counsel students as well as address job-skills mismatch through feedback on teaching modules and working closely with TESDA,” Nieto said in his explanatory note.

Under the bill, Trabaho Centers shall work in coordination with the provincial, city or municipal public employment service offices and shall be supervised by coordinators in the Department of Education Division Offices.

It will also encourage partnerships among educational institutions, non-government organizations, and local government units.
