KABATAAN party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel expressed doubts on the review process of the K to 12 program by the Department of Education.

The youth group described the process as non-inclusive and unscientific ivory tower.

Though Education Sec. Sara Duterte-Carpio announced the department will present updates on the review and a draft proposed new curriculum to boot on January 30, Manuel said to date there are no widespread public consultations conducted involving students and parents who were most impacted by the K to 12 implementation.

“Our students and parents, the ones most affected by K-12, are left in the dark about this review. We doubt the utility of such a review that ignores real experiences of our citizens, our youth, as they are victimized by this botched and burdensome labor export policy,” Manuel stressed.

“Maraming kabataan at magulang ang pinaasa, pinahirapan, pinag-eksperimentuhan at pinagkakitaan sa ilalim ng K to 12. Kailangan pakinggan ng DepEd ang totoong mga karanasan nila sa review upang matukoy ang mas makabuluhang mga solusyon. We need to stop the generational trauma,” he added.

The solon also called on Congress to have an independent review of the K to 12 program, given the numerous House resolutions filed by several legislators including from the Makabayan bloc to do so.
