SENATOR Alan Peter Cayetano stressed the need to strengthen values education to help improve the country’s justice system.

Cayetano said people must be empowered to avoid getting into legal trouble.

“We need to teach our younger people values para hindi na magkademandahan,” he added.

The lawmaker said the long-term solution in improving the justice system is to strengthen values education.

He suggested that the government take a dual approach in improving the justice system beginning with strengthening the barangay justice system to prevent cases from ending up in courts.

“’Yung Lupon is for me very effective, kaya nga may limitations lang,” Cayetano said, referring to the Lupong Tagapamayapa which brings together parties to work out the amicable settlement of disputes.
