SENATOR Grace Poe has filed a measure that seeks to establish the no homework policy in primary and secondary schools.

Senate Bill 882 or the proposed No Homework Law aims to limit the homework given to students.

Poe said that more homework does not translate to better student performance.

“More homework gives additional workload to our already overworked teachers and takes away valuable time that could have been with family and other activities,” she said in her explanatory note.

The measure aims to limit the homework given to students from Kinder to Grade 12 during weekdays to safeguard and promote the welfare of teachers and school children, protect them from conditions that may adversely affect their health.

When enacted into law, the measure will institutionalize and expand the Department of Education m’s Memorandum Circular No. 392 which advised teachers to limit the giving of homework on weekdays and to refrain from giving homework on weekends.
