SENATOR PUSHES FOR CONVERSION OF EARIST CAVITE CAMPUS INTO REGULAR CAMPUS

/ 20 September 2024

SENATOR Imee Marcos is advocating for a measure to convert the Cavite campus of the Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) into a regular campus.

In Senate Bill 2832, or the proposed EARIST-Cavite Campus Act, Marcos aims to secure regular funding in the national budget for the campus’s operations.

Marcos said this would encourage the expansion of the Institute’s services and facilities to provide quality education not only for students in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite but also for neighboring municipalities and the CALABARZON region.

Founded in 1945 as a vocational high school, EARIST was converted into a state institute by Presidential Decree 1524 on June 11, 1978. It is envisioned as a center of excellence in trades, business, arts, and science and technology education.

EARIST’s main campus is located along Nagtahan Street in Santa Mesa, Manila. In contrast, the Cavite campus, formerly called the General Alvarez School of Arts and Trades (GASAT), operates as a satellite campus. Currently, it receives funding through the budgetary allotment of its mother institution, EARIST Manila.

It is the only state college in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, accredited by both the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).
