SENATOR Francis Pangilinan on Wednesday filed a bill that seeks to fund the studies until college of one member of every eligible family.

Senate Bill 2495, or the proposed Bawat Pamilya May College Gradweyt Act, will ensure that at least one member of each family shall be assisted to pursue and successfully complete college education.

Under the bill, beneficiaries of the program shall be entitled to full tuition and subsidies for other school fees and allowances.

The bill gives priority to first generation college students, or students who are part of households included in the Listahanan 2.0 and students who are not part of the Listahanan 2.0 but belong to low-income households.

Listahan 2.0 or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction is the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s data bank of about 5.2 million poor households.

The measure will amend Republic Act 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act. It will be implemented by the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary education board.

The UniFAST board, under the bill, will promulgate the guidelines and monitor the progress of student beneficiaries until they have successfully completed tertiary education.

“Mas mabilis makakaalpas sa kahirapan ang pamilya kung mayroong kahit isang graduate ng kolehiyo sa pamilya. Dapat tutukan ito,” Pangilinan said.
