SENATOR Francis Tolentino filed a measure that seeks to empower the Sangguniang Kabataan in responding to emergency and disaster situations.

Senate Bill 760 aims to amend the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015 or Republic Act 10742.

The measure will create a Katipunan ng Kabataan in every barangay.

It mandates training programs for the Sangguniang Kabataan on emergency and disaster response.

Tolentino said that the youth should be taught and trained on disaster response.

“Clearly, the Katipunan ng Kabataan and the Sangguniang Kabataan are a vast and valuable resource of young people who can be trained in disaster mitigation and preparedness to be able to respond in times of crisis in their barangays,” he said in his explanatory note.
