SENATOR EYES CONSTRUCTION OF MORE SCHOOL BUILDINGS

/ 26 November 2022

SENATOR Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr. filed a bill that seeks to address classroom shortage.

Senate Bill 1492 will amend Republic Act 7880 or the law on the equitable allocation of the Department of Education’s capital outlay.

The bill allows the construction of school buildings either through build-operate-transfer, build-lease-transfer, build-transfer, rehabilitate-operate-transfer, and other contractual arrangements that will allow the use of government and private funds.

The measure also mandates the creation of an inter-agency committee to formulate and ensure the effective implementation of the program by the DepEd.

Revilla said the disparity between the number of students and the number of school facilities remains a problem.

He said that the number of educational facilities is not enough for the ever growing number of students.
