SENATOR EYES COLLEGE OF MEDICINE FOR BENGUET STATE UNIVERSITY

/ 7 April 2023

SENATOR Imee Marcos has filed a measure that will pave the way for the Benguet State University to have its own College of Medicine

Senate Bill 1788 seeks to establish Benguet State University College of Medicine to provide an opportunity for Benguet residents and those from other areas to acquire quality medical education and training near their homes.

Marcos stressed the need to provide more accessible institutions, particularly in remote areas like Benguet, for the implementation of the Doktor Para sa Bayan Act.

The senator said the Commission on Higher Education has awarded the Benguet State University SUC Level IV, the highest level in the categorization of state universities and colleges.

Despite this accomplishment, the university still does not have a medical school.

“The lack of medical education institutions in the region results in high cost of medical education for aspiring doctors,” Marcos said.
