SENATOR BACKS FULL 30-DAY VACATION LEAVE FOR TEACHERS

/ 12 April 2025

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday expressed strong support for granting public school teachers a full 30-day flexible and uninterrupted vacation leave, citing its importance for their well-being as the country prepares for the next academic year.

“Granting teachers a 30-day flexible, uninterrupted vacation will help them recharge as we prepare for the opening of School Year 2025–2026,” Gatchalian said in a statement.

He emphasized the responsibility of school heads and DepEd field officials to ensure that teachers can fully enjoy this break without being burdened by unnecessary work.

“Teachers are already overworked — even more so as we continue to push for reforms to improve our education system,” he added.

A long-time advocate of education reform and teacher welfare, Gatchalian stressed the importance of allowing educators to rest after dedicating themselves to their students.

“Let’s give them a chance to rest,” he said.

Looking ahead, the senator reiterated his commitment to advancing legislation supporting the rights and welfare of educators, including the Revised Magna Carta for Public School Teachers or Senate Bill No. 2493.

“The welfare of our teachers is essential to the success of our education reforms,” he said. “Rested, supported, and empowered teachers are better equipped to help shape the future of our learners.”
