SENATE APPROVES SUMMER YOUTH CAMPS BILL

THE SENATE on Thursday approved a measure that aims to institutionalize the conduct of Summer Youth Camps in the barangay level.

The senators approved on third and final reading House Bill 9852 or the proposed Summer Youth Camp Act.

The measure mandates the Sangguniang Kabataan to hold summer youth camps in every barangay.

It also directs the SK to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the summer youth camps in their respective jurisdictions.

The SK will also develop course modules on leadership seminar, writing workshop, public speaking, sports and fitness, mental wellness, digital skills, entrepreneurship, livelihood and cultural awareness.

This aims to inculcate a sense of social responsibility, ingrain patriotism in the consciousness of the youth, develop youth leadership, engage them in livelihood and entreprenuership activities and promote active participation in sports.

The budget for the Summer Youth Camp shall be included in the annual appropriations of the SK.
