SAVE OUR SCHOOLS NETWORK DECRIES ‘ATTACKS’ ON LUMAD SCHOOLS

/ 14 December 2020

SAVE Our Schools Network denounced the alleged red-tagging of Lumad schools that reportedly resulted in the shutting down of some institutions.

“Lumad schools were shut down by the Department of Education itself, falsely accusing progressive indigenous education as terrorism,” the group said.

It added that the rights of indigenous people and marginalized groups were violated by the Duterte administration.

“Indigenous people’s rights defenders have been repeatedly and baselessly red-tagged as well, harming their lives further,” it said.

With the implementation of the Anti-Terrorism Law, the group said that Lumad people and their allies face the threat of being tagged as criminals for fighting for their lives of their communities.

“We call on the people to condemn the fascist attacks against human rights defenders, and to be human rights defenders themselves,” it added.
