PBBM: WE MUST REMAIN ENGLISH-SPEAKING PEOPLE

/ 25 July 2022

PRESIDENT Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Monday cited the need to review the medium of instructions used in learning institutions to maintain the country’s edge against other nations in terms of foreign employment.

In his State of the Nation Address, Marcos stressed that foreign employers have always favored Filipino employees because of their strong command of the English language.

“This is an advantage that we must continue to enjoy. The internet has now become the global marketplace. Not only for goods and services but also for ideas and even extending to our own personal interactions,” he said.

Marcos said that the language of the internet is English.

“Therefore, the question of our medium of instruction must be continuously re-examined to maintain that advantage that we have established as an English-speaking people,” he said.

Senator Pia Cayetano commended Marcos for his stand on using English as medium of instruction. “‘Yung English as medium of instruction, binanggit nga niya na that is our advantage. Matagal ko na ring sinasabi ‘yan,” she said.
