PBBM SUSPENDS CLASSES, GOV’T WORK IN NCR ANDBULACAN ON AUG. 25

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. ordered the suspension of government work and classes in public schools in the National Capital Region and Bulacan on Monday, August 25.

In a memorandum circular dated July 21, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the President made the move to ensure the “safe, orderly, and successful” opening ceremonies of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

However, government agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services, shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.

The memorandum circular was issued as part of the government’s effort to provide full support and assistance to the Philippine Sports Commission which was tasked to lead the comprehensive planning and preparations for FIBA World Cup hosting.

The suspension of work in private companies and classes in private schools was left to the discretion of their respective heads.

The FIBA World Cup was last hosted by the Philippines 45 years ago.
