NUSP CONDEMNS KILLING OF 52-YEAR-OLD MOTHER IN QC

/ 3 June 2021

THE NATIONAL  Union of Students of the Philippines condemned the cold-blooded killing of a 52-year-old mother by a policeman, saying the government’s campaign against illegal drugs gave rise to such abuse of power.

NUSP National President Jandeil Roperos said the killing of Lilibeth Valdez by Police Master Sgt. Hensie Zinampan is a manifestation of how policemen utilize their power to terrorize the people.

The video footage that went viral showed Zinampan pulling Valdez’s hair before shooting her in the neck in Fairview, Quezon City.

“Clearly, PNP is not here to serve and protect the people, they terrorize the masses! They bask in the protection and culture of impunity perpetrated by Duterte himself,” she said.

The NUSP called for justice for Valdez and other victims of police abuse.

“The continuing widespread abuse of power stemmed from Duterte’s negligence, irresponsibility, and incompetency. Since the very beginning, his failed war on drugs have caused the Filipinos nothing but fear from the people who are ought to protect us,” Roperos said.

“It gave rise to extra-judicial killings that claimed thousands of innocent lives and countless assaults which involved the persons who have vowed to serve and protect the people,” she added.

Roperos stressed that they will forever hold President Rodrigo Duterte and his cronies responsible “for all the atrocities that have taken place since the start of this administration.”

“The Duterte Administration and the Philippine National Police’s failed leadership and betrayal of the public’s trust will never be forgotten and the call for justice will not stop until the perpetrators who caused the suffering of the Filipinos are put behind bars,” she said.
