INCOMING college students cannot apply for scholarship from the Commission on Higher Education after it suspended the program due to budget constraints.

INCOMING college students cannot apply for scholarship from the Commission on Higher Education after it suspended the program due to budget constraints.

CHED said that the applications for Student Financial Assistance Program for Academic Year 2022-2023 were halted due to “budget inadequacy.”

“The CHED Regional Offices are directed to disseminate the information to prevent spreading of fake news and avoid confusion to interested student applicants,” it said.

CHED’s Scholarship Program has been giving public and private students grants which renews each year as long as students maintain the required grades for the scholarship.

In the past, CHED granted private school student beneficiaries P120,000 per year and P80,000 for those who are in public school.

CHED’s advisory on the temporary suspension of application for CSPs for AY 2022-2023 came a day after it announced that the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education, its attached agency, posted a 99.67 percent overall budget utilization rate of its allotment for fiscal year 2020 for the implementation of programs under Republic Act 10931 or Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
