MOST FILIPINOS SUPPORT OPENING OF CLASSES

/ 9 November 2020

MAJORITY of Filipinos supported the Department of Education’s decision to open classes this year despite a raging pandemic, according to a survey by Pulse Asia.

The survey showed that 60 percent of those polled were for the opening of classes, 25 percent was against it while 15 percent was undecided.

Most of those who backed the opening of classes came from rural areas.

The survey question was “Gaano kayo sumasang-ayon o hindi sumasang-ayon sa desisyon ng DepEd na buksan pa rin ang klase sa taong 2020-2021 ngunit sa pamamagitan ng distance learning?”

Education Secretary Leonor Briones thanked teachers and all stakeholders for making the opening of classes possible.

“We thank our teachers, learners, parents, and partners for this overwhelming support. The past months were not easy for education but the whole community rallied behind the Department for learning to continue,” Briones said in a statement.

For School Year 2020-2021, there were 25.03 million enrollees, 22.75 million in public schools.
