MANILA SUSPENDS CLASSES AND WORK ON JAN. 9

/ 5 January 2023

THE CITY government of Manila on Wednesday announced the suspension of classes and work on January 9 in line with the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Mayor Honey Lacuna signed an executive order suspending classes in all levels and local government work in the city.

Lacuna said the suspension of classes will allow parents and students to participate in the religious activities.

“It is fitting that classes in all public and private schools whether in-person or online be suspended as well on January 9, 2023,” she added.

Meanwhile, the suspension of work in national government offices or private companies in the city is left to the discretion of their respective managements.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is celebrated every January 9.

It culminates in the Traslacion, a procession from the Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church that draws more than a million devotees.

However, the grand procession has been put on hold because of the pandemic.
