LAWMAKERS WANT AGRICULTURAL STRAND IN SHS PROGRAM
THREE lawmakers pressed for the integration of an agricultural strand in the academic track of the Senior High School Program.
Tingog Sinirangan Party-list Representatives Yedda Marie Romualdez, Jude Acidre and Maguindanao 1st District Rep. Bai Dimple Mastura filed House Bill 3241 or the proposed Senior High School Agricultural Strand Act which seeks to establish and promote agriculture as viable alternative for SHS students who are inclined to pursue a job in the industry.
“In the long run, this bill indirectly addresses the challenges in food security for the country through its Senior High School students trained under the agricultural strand,” the lawmakers said in their explanatory note.
The measure seeks the creation of the curriculum consultative committee chaired by the secretary of Education.
The committee will be composed of representatives from the Commission on Higher Eductaion, Technical Education Skills and Development Authority, Department of Agriculture, Professional Regulation Commission, Department of Science and Technology and business chambers.
The group shall give priority to agriculture in the development and review of the curriculum.
