LAWMAKERS FILE BILL TO STRENGTHEN YOUTH LEADERSHIP

/ 3 April 2023

QUEZON Representatives David “Jayjay” Suarez and Anna Marie Villaraza-Suarez filed a measure that aims to make Filipino youth better leaders.

House Bill 6674 or the proposed Youth Empowerment Support or YES Law seeks to further solidify laws that strengthen and reform the role and importance of the youth in governance and nation-building.

The bill mandates the appropriation of additional funding of two to five percent to villages for the implementation of youth projects.

This is in addition to the 10 percent already allocated in the general funds of the barangay.

The measure gives priority to programs, projects, and activities under the Comprehensive Barangay Youth Development Plan and Annual Barangay Investment Programs that promote and are aligned with the Philippine Youth Development Plan such as health, education, culture, sports, environment, global mobility, active citizenship, governance, social equality and inclusion in peace-building and security, human rights, gender equality and economic empowerment.
