LAWMAKER SEEKS PROMOTION OF CAPABILITIES OF SPED TEACHERS

/ 7 September 2022

ANG Probinsyano Party-list Rep. Alfred Delos Santos filed a measure that will d the capabilities and number of special education teachers in public schools, especially in rural areas.

In House Bill 2754 or the proposed SPED Teaching Force Act, Delos Santos stressed the need for the Department of Education to support SPED Centers especially in the provinces.

He said the DepEd must promote the hiring of teachers who majored in SPED and are equipped with the skills and knowledge to handle SPED classes.

The measure also mandates updated training to General Education teachers who handle SPED classes.

It seeks to institutionalize a feedback mechanism to be used by the participants of each training and a review system that will gather and synthesize data and use to evaluate the usefulness, responsiveness and efficacy of the training programs.

Under the measure, the DepEd may consult government agencies and non-government organizations that cater to the needs of persons with disabilities and children with special needs.
