ISABELA 5th District Representative Faustino Michael Dy III filed a bill that seeks to include the teaching of law topics in basic and higher education.

House Bill 706 or the proposed Youth Legal Education Act mandates the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to ensure that the youth are well aware of their rights, duties and obligations and the penalties and remedies for the violations of those rights.

“Laws were created to help ensure this by defining rights and obligations, and penalties for violations,” Dy said in his explanatory note.

He stressed the importance of harmonious co-existence which can only be achieved through respect for others’ rights.

“Rather than leaving the education of our children regarding this matter to parents at the risk of the same being overlooked, inadequate, or incorrect, this proposed measure aims to ensure that our children are equipped with this vital knowledge as they go through life, and become responsible citizens,” the lawmaker said.
