PARANAQUE City Rep. Joy Myra Tambunting filed a measure that aims to enhance the quality of basic education by improving the quality of teachers and school leaders and strengthening the Teachers Education Council.

House Bill 10238 or the proposed Teacher Education Excellence Act will institutionalize the National Educators Academy of the Philippines.

It seeks to strengthen TEC through the expansion of the Council membership to include the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and diverse set of representatives from public school teachers, school leaders from private educational institutions, tertiary level educators, deans of colleges of education, and technical-vocational educators.

Under the measure, the NEC shall provide quality professional development programs on teacher education to in-service teachers, school leaders, and other teaching-related personnel in all public and private basic education institutions.

It also mandates the development of Teacher Education Centers of Excellence in each region.
