LAWMAKER FILES ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION BILL
SENATOR Joel Villanueva has filed a measure that will include environmental education in the Senior High School curriculum.
He said that Senate Bill 573 or the proposed Environmental Education in Senior High School Act is in line with the United Nations Environment Program 2030 vision of reducing environmental risks and increasing resilience of societies and the environmental as a whole.
Villanueva bewailed that waste disposal problems, water and air pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, climate change, and countless other environment issues plague the Philippines.
He said environmental education will enhance students’ awareness of global and local environmental issues.
Through the bill, students will hopefully be prodded to take action to protect the environment.
The senator said that better understanding of the environment is seen to improve participation of citizens in active environmental protection and thereby contribute to the reduction of the country’s vulnerabilities to the impacts of environmental degradation.
