LAWMAKER EYES CONVERSION OF SORSOGON SENIOR HS INTO AN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

/ 30 April 2021

SORSOGON Rep.  Evelina Escudero has filed a measure seeking to separate the Sugod Senior High School from its mother institution, the Lydia Martinez Memorial High School.

In pushing for House Bill 8612, Escudero explained that Sugod Senior High School is a kilometer away from its mother institution.

The lawmaker believes that Sugod Senior High School can accommodate more students once it becomes an independent school.

Under the measure, all personnel, assets, liabilities and records provided by the Lydia Martinez Memorial High School to Sugod High School will be transferred to and absorbed by the latter.

Once enacted into law, the Education secretary shall immediately include in the department’s program the operationalization of Sugod Senior High School.

The initial funding will be charged against the appropriation of Lydia Martinez Memorial High School while the budget for its continued operation shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
