KABATAAN PARTYLIST PRESSES CALL FOR STUDENT AID

/ 1 April 2022

THE KABATAAN Party-list on Thursday called on the government to act on its call to provide aid to students amid the series of oil price hikes and impending electricity price increase.

The group said that rising prices will deprive more youth of their right to education amid the pandemic.

It criticized the government for its decision to provide P200 monthly subsidy for poor families calling it “insulting.”

“Mas malaki pa baon namin sa school noong may face-to-face classes pa kaysa dyan! Sa true lang tayo, ‘di to sasapat sa arawang pamasahe o pa-load, paano pa kaya sa pagkain ng aming pamilya? Walang eskuwela kung walang sapat na ayuda!” Kabataan Party-list National President Raoul Manuel said.

The Agham Youth National calculated that each student will need P96,416 for his or her learning needs for Academic Year 2022-2023.

Kabataan Party-list Rep. Sarah Jane Elago earlier filed House Bill 9494 or the Emergency Student Aid and Relief Bill which aims to provide a one-time cash grant of P10,000 for all students or youth undergoing blended learning who are affected by the pandemic or calamity.
