JAPANESE EMBASSY OPENS APPLICATIONS FOR JAPAN EXCHANGE & TEACHING PROGRAM

/ 20 September 2021

THE JAPANESE Embassy in Manila is now accepting applications for the assistant language teacher positions in the 2022 Japan Exchange and Teaching program.

The JET was introduced in 1987 to help deepen mutual understanding between the people of Japan and foreign nationals through foreign language exchange and cultural immersion.

“In 2019 alone, about 5,761 individuals were selected to participate in the JET from 57 countries, including the Philippines,” the embassy said.

“The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has sent a total of 154 JET participants as ALTs or Coordinators for International Relations to Japan,” it added.

To qualify for the program, an applicant must be a Filipino citizen, physically and mentally fit to work abroad, and have excellent grasp of the English language.

Applicants should be holders of a bachelor’s degree and have not lived in Japan for six or more years since 2010.

Selected applicants will work in public or private schools, or local boards of education in the prefecture or municipality they will be assigned to.

Their primary task is to assist in classes led by Japanese teachers of English.

The deadline for the submission of applications is on Dec. 3, 2021.
