HOUSE TO REVIEW CAMPUS SAFETY MEASURES

/ 28 June 2026

THE HOUSE of Representatives will investigate the fatal school shooting in Tacloban City that claimed the lives of three minors, with lawmakers seeking to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy and identify measures to prevent similar incidents.

Kabataan Party-list Rep. Renee Co said the inquiry will examine how the two minor suspects became involved in such extreme violence and how they were able to bring two firearms into San Jose National High School.

Co said lawmakers also aim to recommend stronger campus safety measures, including programs to address bullying and other factors that may contribute to violence among students.

The lawmaker also rejected proposals to lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility in the wake of the incident.

She argued that it is unfair to blame or label the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act a failure, noting that the law has yet to be fully implemented.

The House inquiry is expected to identify security lapses and recommend policy reforms to help prevent future incidents of school violence while safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.
