/ 26 November 2022

THE COMMITTEE on Local Government and the Committee on Basic Education and Culture at the House of Representatives agreed to form a technical working group that will consolidate and finetune bills seeking to expand the Special Education Fund.

During a joint hearing, Representatives Rex Gatchalian and Roman Romulo approved the motion to consolidate House Bills 558, 1200, 1286, 1530, 1619, 3018, 3512, 1583, and 5932, all seeking the expansion of the SEF.

The committees created a joint technical working group to consolidate and fine-tune House Bills 2950 and 3690 which aim to expand and strengthen local school boards.

Gatchalian said that adding more LSB members will lead to “richer and more robust” meetings.

He said that the committee secretariat will confer with authors of the measure to streamline the list of proposed additional LSB members.

Department of Education NCR Regional Director Wilfredo Cabral supported the measures, saying that they will improve the quality of education.
