HOUSE PANEL OKS RENAMING OF BACOOR SCHOOL

/ 24 October 2022

THE COMMITTEE on Basic Education and Culture of the House of Representatives approved a measure that aims to separate the Bacoor National High School-Tabing Dagat Annex from its main campus in Molino.

House Bill 3133, authored by Cavite 2nd District Representative Lani Revilla, also pushed the renaming of the school to Padre Mariano Gomez National High School.

Revilla said the proposed school name bears a historical and cultural significance and would also have a very positive implication to national pride and patriotism.

“Mariano Gomez will be such an inspiration and influence to our pupils,” Revilla said.

Padre Mariano Gomez was one of the three martyr priests who comprised GomBurZa, along with Jacinto Zamora and Jose Burgos. The priests were sentenced to death by Spaniards for their role in the Cavite mutiny in 1872.

“The renaming of BNHS-TDA to Padre Mariano Gomes NHS is a fitting tribute to his legacy of patriotism and fear of God which core values are expected to inspire the Bacooreño who will be formed and who will graduate from PMGNHS,” Revilla said in her explanatory note.
