/ 13 May 2024

THE HOUSE Committee on Higher and Technical Education has approved the measure establishing Bohol Island State University Tourism and Sports Institute in Balilihan, Bohol.

The panel headed by Baguio City Rep. Mark Go agreed to endorse for plenary deliberations House Bill 9901 or the proposed Bohol Island State University Tourism and Sports Institute Act.

The bill was authored by Bohol 1st District Congressman Edgar Chatto, who envisions BISU Tourism and Sports Institute as a modern, state-of-the-art facility primarily dedicated to education, capacity-building, research, and training for students and stakeholders in tourism, sports, and related fields.

The bill also seeks to construct intentionally-compliant sports facilities to encourage sports tourism.

The BISU-TSI will be the country’s training laboratory for tourism and sports development especially for Visayas and Mindanao and could open doors for sports tourism in the country.

It will also serve as an accessible tourism and sports facility and an accredited laboratory for on-site student and athlete training as well as a venue for tourism and sports activities and events.
