HOUSE PANEL OKAYS MEASURE ON CAREER PROGRESSION SYSTEM FOR TEACHERS

/ 22 March 2023

THE COMMITTEE on Basic Education and Culture of the House of Representatives approved the substitute bill which will institutionalize the Career Progression System for public school teachers.

The panel headed by Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo agreed to endorse for plenary deliberations the substitute bill for House Bill 1580 filed by TINGOG Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Rodriguez and House Bill 3554 by Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto.

The measure defines Career Progression Line as individual tracks of professional advancement available to teachers under the Career Progression System.

The institutionalization of the Career Progression System will promote professional development and career advancement among public teachers and define the Career Progression Line of teachers within the public school system.

Based on the measures, teachers will be promoted based on merit, fitness and competence after a comprehensive performance assessment.

The assessment will be conducted by an independent third party who will evaluate the teachers based on clear guidelines to be provided by the Department of Education.
