/ 17 January 2021

THE COMMITTEE on Higher Technical Education at the House of Representatives has approved the proposed establishment of the College of Medicine of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.

House Bill 8123 was sponsored by Deputy Speaker and Cagayan de Oro 2nd district Rep. Rufus Rodriguez.

USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio Cultura II and USTP CDO Chancellor Atty. Dionel Albina attended the online deliberations on the measure.

USTP pushed the establishment of the College of Medicine to give poor but deserving students access to quality education and to address the need for more healthcare professionals.

“One of the major campuses of USTP is strategically located in Cagayan de Oro, the gateway of Northern Mindanao. USTP has also a tradition of excellence in innovation and the leader in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering and Agriculture with its existence of its Centers of Excellence and Development,” the university said.

“The proposed College of Medicine will cater to students not just in Cagayan de Oro but throughout the region,” it added.
