/ 25 November 2022

THE HOUSE Committee on Basic Education and Culture has approved a measure creating the charter of the National Library of the Philippines.

The panel chaired by Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo endorsed for plenary deliberations House Bill 1527.

“We filed this bill so that we can have a charter for the National Library and make clear its functions and responsibilities, including its officers,” said Roman, the author of the bill.

The measure will be consolidated with House Bills 1798, 5348, 5777, 4559, 5056, 1582, 5120, 5134, 2359, 5209, 4988, all seeking to improve the country’s library and reading center systems based on the latest computer and electronic library technology.

This will include the establishment of digital public libraries and reading centers and the digitization of all books necessary for public education, among others.

Romulo said one of the functions of the National Library will be to assist schools in the digitization of education learning.

He said the national charter bill already embraces the portal and creation of city, provincial, and municipal libraries.
