HOUSE FAILS TO PASS BILL THAT WILL ESTABLISH DINAGAT ISLANDS STATE COLLEGE

/ 7 June 2022

THE HOUSE of Representatives failed to discuss and approve a measure that seeks to create a state college in the lone district of Dinagat Islands.

House Bill 10813 that aims to establish the Dinagat Islands State College was filed by Rep. Allan Ecleo.

The bill was referred to the House Committee on Basic Education and Arts.

However, the committee failed to act on it because the chamber adjourned for the May 9 elections.

In his explanatory note, Ecleo said that without a State College in the province, the vicious cycle of poverty will continue.

“As population increases and times are changing, educational needs consequently arise and transform,” Ecleo said.

“The Province of Dinagat Islands, being geographically remote and isolated, makes life difficult it not impossible for the poor Dinagatnons to go to college,” he added.
