HOUSE ADOPTS RESOLUTION SUPPORTING TEACHERS

/ 4 February 2022

THE HOUSE of Representatives has adopted a resolution urging the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to support public school teachers and college faculties in providing quality education amid the Covid19 pandemic.

House Resolution 2471 mandates the provision of personal protective equipment, disinfectants, tablets or laptops, and broadband subscription to teachers and college faculties.

The resolution seeks to promote the safety of teachers and students and boost the capacity of teachers challenged by distance learning.

The lawmakers stressed in the resolution that in consideration of the probability of the continuing transmission of Covid19, teachers and non-teaching personnel should be amply protected against the disease and should be provided with the standard personal protective equipment based on the Alert Level raised by the Inter-Agency Task Force.

“To further protect both teachers and students, all teachers and non-teaching personnel should have been fully vaccinated and accordingly have received the required booster dose before they are allowed to conduct face-to-face instruction,” they said.

They added that many teachers cannot afford new laptops and broadband connection for economic reasons.
