GLOBE HEIGHTENS CAMPAIGN VS ILLEGAL ANTENNAS, REPEATERS

/ 26 February 2021

AN EMPLOYEE of a third-party contractor was recently arrested after trying to sell Globe booster antennas.

Members of CIDG Lapu-Lapu PNP, in coordination with Globe Security, arrested a technician employed by one of Globe’s contractors in an entrapment operation at Hoops Dome, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu recently.

Recovered from the suspect were nine booster antennas which he tried to sell to an undercover cop posing as a buyer.

“We are very serious in our campaign against the use of illegal boosters only to find out that one of our own contractors is doing something much worse. We are very happy that (the suspect) was caught and may this arrest serve as a stern warning against other third party contractors who exploit the trust and confidence given to them by the company and its customers,” said Patrick Gloria, Globe’s Director for External Affairs, VISMIN.

Globe received a tip from a concerned customer after the suspect offered to sell him a Globe booster antenna. This is an illegal practice under Republic Act no.  8484, otherwise known as Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998. Customers can only avail of Globe booster antennas from Globe Stores or through its online shop.

Third party contractors including their technicians and personnel are barred from selling any Globe gadgets or devices on their own.

Globe has been at the forefront in the campaign against the use and selling of illegal booster antennas or illegal repeaters which can bring down the entire signal of a community, a barangay or even the whole town or city down.  These illegal devices interfere with network signals hence the neighborhood or the community will experience weak signals, slow connections, dropped calls and poor voice call quality.

The company is also serious in its bid to get rid of unscrupulous third party partners which engage in illegal activities at its expense and its customers.
